Introducing... Our New Yoga Class!

We are so pleased to announce our New Children's Yoga class.

Our Yoga class is held every Thursday (during the month of January) starting at 9:30 am and costs $45.00 for 4 weeks. Parents are welcome to stay and watch or drop off their kids. Unfortunately, the January class is currently full. However, if you are interested in signing up for this class in the future, please let us know and we will put you on our waiting list. We have slots available for February.

Yoga provides a wonderful way for the children to explore their bodies, hearts, and minds. It also gives them the needed tools to still the mind, enliven the body, and connect with their feelings. The Yoga postures are taught in an easy and fun way through the imaginative use of animal shapes, encouraging through play, better body co-ordination, breathing control, and suppleness. Your children can improve their health by having fun acting out Yoga positions in the shape of animals like: lions, tigers, and cobras...oh my! What fun!

The Cobra pose:

In addition, our 30 minute Yoga session is followed by meditation exercises. These exercises are given through creative stories and activities designed to decrease stress, anxiety, and anger while increasing self-esteem and self-awareness. Our Yoga routine's are child led, instructor guided. The children in class collectively build the Yoga routine each week, by selecting breathing, balance, standing, bending, twisting, and stretching poses from the colorful yoga books and cards provided. In addition, they also choose a playful game and warm down breathing exercise. Our experienced Yoga students are also given a teaching moment to share their favorite Yoga pose with the class.

We love the eager participation and helpful ideas and observations of both the children and adults. It makes our Yoga experience so rewarding! For example, the first week, a mother of one of the children shared an om breathing exercise (that we were able to use in class) and other creative activity ideas. We welcome your ideas to improve our class.

Here some poses that the children choose for our first week of Yoga this month:

A moment to relax and breathe! The Om breathing pose:

The Giraffe pose: Stand and breathe in, bring your arms high above your head.

The Giraffe pose continued. After, breathing out and putting hands on the floor as far forward as possible, keep heels on floor and stretch back. Ms. Heather I., is guiding the kids to improve their form by keeping their heels on the floor and back legs straight:

The Stork pose:

The Eagle pose:

Ahhh...time to cool down with a relaxation exercise in child's pose:
We love learning and stretching our bodies and minds with you!
We hope to see you for our future Yoga/Meditation classes!
