Plants we Eat |
Busy morning doing some home tutoring! We began with our science exploration. We're finishing up a unit on plants. Today we worked on identifying the parts of the flower and sorting & classifying different plant parts we eat...
Then on to math...
Place Value Work (100's, 10's, and 1's represented by different sized bears) |
Numbers & Number Words |
Fine Motor Development |
And finishing up with some individual goal-based work, in this case fine motor development with a simple Montessori transfer exercise.
Montessori Pink Tower & Brown Stairs work |
Then the afternoon was full with our "Boy's Club". We still have room for one more boy, preferably within the 6-9 year age range! Our Boy's Club primarily focuses on developing social skills including cooperative play, identifying and expressing emotions, and reading social cues. We also work on self regulation techniques for dealing with strong emotions such as fear/anxiety or anger.
One of our cooperative group activities was converting a plain old
cardboard box into an object of their choice. After an extensive
discussion the decision was made to create a "Dragon Bomb". Can you
tell we're working with boys?! The key focus of this activity was to
promote cooperation with various complex tasks. Here's what we came up
with...
Working together to add a dragon "wing" |
Adding the "robot parts" for the bomb |
The dragon's face... |
They requested a flashlight to create "fire" |
After concluding our work for the day on the "Dragon Bomb" (with promises to come back to it next week) we took a "Sensory Break".
Shaving Cream Painting |
Mirror, mirror game... |
Then we moved to a social skills activity, where we copied the facial expressions of our partners. Our goal was to emphasize the importance of eye contact and looking for facial cues during a discussion. And on to Yoga/Meditation where we tried out different Yoga poses and practiced deep breathing!

Warrior II |
Wow, that was hard work! Time for a breathing break... |
And our coloring page, to remind us to breathe deeply. |

Free Choice Time |
And at last it was time for free choice...big surprise, they chose to work with the LEGOs. Like I said....all boys!
Our Boy's Group runs Thursdays from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. We have room for one more group member!
